How 250 of North America’s top media sites are dealing with ad blockers
There’s a lot of talk about ad blocking in the advertising and publishing industry these days. With such a direct effect on the business model, it is understandable that publishers are beginning to push back on users that are consuming their content, but not their revenue generating ads.
We decided to see for ourselves how 250 of North America’s top publishers* are responding to the Adblockalypse. We installed AdBlockPlus and after reviewing every single site on the list, we were surprised to find that only 8 publishers (3.2% of the 250 sites) are either blocking access or messaging their readers with requests to turn off their ad blockers.
We were also able to see just how many “elements” are being blocked on each site’s homepage and article pages, which include ads, tracking scripts and the like.
We will continue to update this list regularily.
